Joan Costner:

Joan Clifton Costner, 89, longtime Guymon resident went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 1, 2023.

The daughter of Dale H. and Ethel M. (Baird) Clifton, Roberta Joan was born March 23, 1934 in Sharon.

Joan had great memories of hunting with her dad as a child. The Clifton family moved to Guymon in 1943 from Woodward County. Joan attended and graduated from the Guymon school system.

Joan was united in marriage to Glenn Costner on Nov. 2, 1960, in Boise City. She was a dedicated homemaker and was most proud of being a foster parent for more than 35 children.

Joan also worked as a photograph­er, capturing many smiles and events over the years. She was a talented poet, who began at age 10 or 11, as well as being a great musician, where she was active with the SonShine trio for nearly 30 years. Joan also enjoyed playing for church services at the Dunaway Manor for many years. She was a member of the Guymon Foursquare/Connection Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Costner; son, Gary Costner; grandson, Andrew Birch; greatgrand­daughter, Scout Hope Sullivan; and one sister, Judy Hall.

Survivors include her caregiver and dear friends, Trena Moser and Eloy Torres of Guymon; one sister: Jeanette and Johnny Crowder of Blossom, Texas; two sons: David Costner and wife, Donna of Colorado and Vernon Costner of Guymon; special foster daughters, Hazel Clark and Rosie Schuster; grandchild­ren: Brandy Costner of Guymon, Veronica Martinez of Moore, Justin Costner of Guymon, Kiley Costner of Springfiel­d, Mo., Max Costner of Tacoma, Wash., Jordan Sullivan of Guymon, Katie Davis of Andrews, Texas, Beth Costner and Ryan Costner of Colorado, Randy Clark, Stephanie Gordon, Teri Hennessy, David Clark, Toby

Clark and her “adopted” grandkids: Brielle Torres, Justin Horton, Huston Garcia and Chloe Moser; along with numerous great- grandchild­ren, including Matthew Costner, Joshua Born and Andrew Martire, nieces, nephews, foster family, extended family and a host of friends.

Visitation took place from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at the Connection Church, 1901 N. Lelia, at 10 a.m. today with Rev. Dr. Dallas McGlasson officiatin­g. Interment will follow at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon under the care of the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
