Lois Inez Wallin Boston will be 110 years old on Wednesday.

Lois was born May 10, 1913 on a farm in eastern Oklahoma. Since Oklahoma became a state in 1907, there probably wasn’t too many towns in this state in 1913. She lived in Grayson County.

Her parents were Benjamin Franklin and Mary Wallin. Lois was the ninth of 12 children -- six boys and six girls. The first sibling died of diptheria as a baby.

The family moved to Texas when she was 6 years old. Not sure where she went to grade school or high school, but somehow made her way to Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell.

There she met Charlie Boston. They both graduated from Panhandle A&M College and were married Dec. 24, 1936. Lois taught school at May.

Charlie Boston started a plumbing business in Guymon, then opened a furniture store called Independent Hardware.

They lived at 606 N. James, then later built their home at 1509 N. Lelia. They lived there until Charlie’s health got bad and he had to go to Dunaway Manor Care Center.

Charlie passed away April 27, 2006. They were married for 69 years.

Lois played golf until she was 83 years old. She was called “down the middle Boston” for her straight drives. She played in golf tournaments “with the best of women’s golf club” in Guymon and around the area.

Lois also loved to play bridge and continued until most of her friends died or moved away. She was a good player, too. When asked recently if she missed playing golf and bridge, she replied, “most definitely!”

Lois has lived under 20 different U.S. Presidents, beginning with William Howard Taft, 1909-1913.

She lived in her home until 2011, At 98 years old, she moved to Dunaway Manor — Heritage Community, in Guymon.

Lois was a member of the Methodist Church and is good friends with Pastor David Player, current pastor of Victory Memorial Methodist Church. He comes regularly to minister at the Heritage Center.

Lois broke her hip at 106 years old and had surgery, and the surgeon said she was the oldest person he’d ever done hip surgery on. She lived through it and remains involved in activities at the community center.

Lois and Charlie had three daughters: Gay, who married Jerry Houser (deceased);

Charlene, who married Irwin Cates (deceased); Vickie, who married Jack Bryan.

She has five grandchildren: Todd Houser, Kelli Nelson, Kevin Cates, Brad Bryan and Debbie Bryan.

Lois has ten greatgrandchildren: Mindy, Chris and Nick Nelson; Sophie Houser; Mya and Macy Bryan; Ryan and Kyle Cates; Savanna and Brianna McCant; and Kaylee Bryan.

She has five greatgreat grandchildren:

Blake, Brady and Brydan Carey; Cooper Nelson; Warren and Kennedy Nelson.

Lois went to the Hairport Beauty Salon until she was 105. Janet Potts continues doing her hair weekly at the manor.

Asked recently what she missed the most and she replied, “living at home.”

Asked how she feels to be the oldest person in Oklahoma and she said, “It feels the same — no different.”

Asked what she looked forward to and she replied, “Seeing my girls the most.”

When she was asked if she was happy, she said, “As happy as she could be.”
