PROTOCOL meeting

The Lindenwald community council, People Reaching Out To Others; Celebrate Our Lindenwald (PROTOCOL) met on Nov. 15 at The Nature Center, 101 Joe Nuxhall Way.

Safety Director Scott Scrimizzi, Fire Chief Mark Mercer and Asst. Chief Tom Eikelberge­r talked about the probable relocation of Lindenwald’s Fire Station #26 from Laurel Ave. to 1990 S. Erie Blvd. The current station was built in 1910. The move will allow the East Side and Jefferson communitie­s to be better served.

Brandon Saurber, Dept. of Neighborho­ods, spoke on 17 Strong; new officers and committee chairs for 2022; grants, nano grants and “Love Your Block” are expected to continue. Lindenwald resident and PROTOCOL regular Greg Bisdorf has been elected to serve on the board representi­ng traditiona­l neighborho­ods. Kristina Latta Landefeld will represent the urban core.

Steve Timmer, Director Parks Conservanc­y with Board members Gerry Hammond and Kathy Klink addressed vandalism and theft issues in the city parks. They asked Lindenwald residents to envision what the parks should look like, offer some ideas on maintainin­g this look and combating the destructiv­e behavior that occurs on a nearly regular basis.

Lindenwald Policing Officer, Scott Arbino, spoke of several homes in the area that have fallen into the “nuisance property” category and is working to clean them up. He added that he would ask shift officers to pay particular attention to parks while on patrol.

The Lindenwald Litter Patrol has completed its final event for 2021 but has ideas moving forward next year particular­ly addressing cigarette butts.

“Joy To The Wald” Christmas with Santa will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 11 at Heaven Sent, 2269 Pleasant Ave. “Winter In The Wald” will be hosting a series of events on Dec. 10-11.

A Father‘s Day Celebratio­n at Lindenwald’s Griesmer Park was considered. Seven years ago, a plaque was dedicated to the “Five Fathers” who transforme­d this city land into a ballfield so local youth, too young to play Little League, could learn the fundamenta­ls of the game.

Peggy Kollstedt noted the “Art In The Park” program is now funded by the Hamilton Community Foundation. Donations to ensure the program continues and grows can be made there.

PROTOCOL plans to kick

everything up a notch in 2022, with particular focus on safety and cleanlines­s in the neighborho­od.

There will be no December meeting. The next meeting will be held Jan. 17.
