Mariners to be down a ‘couple’ players in Toronto

Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais said “a couple players” won’t make the trip for the three-game series that starts Monday at Toronto because of the Canadian government’s vaccine mandate.

Speaking before Sunday’s series finale at the New York Mets, Servais did not identify which players will be unavailabl­e.

Canada requires anyone entering the country to have received two doses of a

COVID-19 vaccine, the second at least 14 days before entry.

Blue Jays prospects strike out 24

Prospects on the Class A Dunedin Blue Jays struck out 24 batters in a 1-0 win over the New York Yankees’ Tampa Tarpons in the Florida State League on Saturday night, pitching a combined two-hitter.

Nick Frasso, a 24-year-old right-hander, struck out eight over three innings. Dahian Santos, a 19-year-old righthande­r, struck out 10 over four innings. Braden Scott, a 24-year-old left-hander, struck out six over two innings.

Mets put RHP Megill put on injured list

Right-hander Tylor Megill was placed on the 15-day injured list by the New York Mets on Sunday because of an inflamed right biceps, four days after he allowed eight runs over 1 1/3 innings during a defeat at Washington.

Megill is 4-2 with a 4.41 ERA in seven starts.
