NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country music star Chris Young was arrested last week and charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and assault on an officer after a confrontation at a bar in Nashville.

Young, 38, a two-decade country music veteran who has topped the charts multiple times, was detained after he confronted and shoved a state liquor agent during a compliance check at a bar in Midtown Nashville, The Tennessean reported, citing an arrest affidavit.

He later was released on bond.

Agents with the Alcoholic Beverage Commission were completing a compliance check around 8:30 p.m. at the Tin Roof bar on Demonbreun Street when they encountered Young. After checking his ID and confirming it was valid, the agents moved on.

According to the affidavit, Young began asking questions and video recording the agents. When they left the bar after finishing their compliance check, Young followed, and agent said in the affidavit.

Young and others followed the officers to a neighboring bar, the Dawg House, The Tennessean said. When the agents turned to leave the Dawg House, Young put his hand out and stopped them, hitting an agent in the shoulder, police said in the arrest affidavit.

The atmosphere in the bar turned hostile, WSMV-TV Channel 4 reported. Two officers detained Young — who had bloodshot watery eyes and spoke with a slurred speech — and placed him under arrest.

Young has earned 11 No. 1 Billboard Country Airplay hits since his debut in 2006, including “I’m Comin’ Over,” “Voices” and “At the End of a Bar.”

In 2022, he was nominated for seven Academy of Country Music Awards, the most of any artist that year.

“It’s a huge honor and one of the most special days of my life,” Young told The Tennessean then. “I’ve never been the ‘most nominated’ at anything so far in my career.”
