A NEW JERSEY TRANSPLANT WHO’S BEEN LIVING HERE FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS, CORCORAN’S MALA SANDER HAS SEEN ALL THE HAMPTONS’ HIDDEN CORNERS. BY EMILY WEITZ
A New Jersey transplant who’s been living here for almost 20 years, Corcoran’s Mala Sander has seen all the Hamptons’ hidden corners.
Tell us about your favorite Hamptons town. “Sag Harbor is a water lover’s paradise filled with beautiful vistas. The entire village is up and running yearround. The restaurants, shops, art galleries, and Bay Street Theater all help ground it.” How about the best morning spots? “I like the Golden Pear (four locations; golden pear.com), Jack’s (two locations; jacksstirbrew.com), and especially the coffee at Grindstone (7 Main St., Sag Harbor; grindstonecoffeeanddonuts.com). The American Hotel (49 Main St., Sag Harbor, 631725-3535; theamerican hotel.com) serves breakfast every day—a little-known fact!” Where do you meet friends for a drink? “No doubt, the bar at the American Hotel.” How do you like to spend a few hours in Sag Harbor? “I love the Whaling Museum (200 Main St., Sag Harbor, 631-725-0770; sagharbor whalingmuseum.org). Often overlooked, it’s a great place to explore Sag Harbor history. There are also wonderful art exhibits here. I love to go walking around the village, along the harborfront, and over the bridge into North Haven.” Why did you fall in love with the East End? “The light, the air, and the water. My husband spent his summers here, but I never came to the Hamptons until I met him, in the early ’80s. One trip out East and I was hooked. I could not wait to move here full-time!” Corcoran Group, 155 Main St., Sag Harbor, 631-899-0108; corcoran.com
