CITY SLICKERS
SOMETIMES, EVEN THOSE LIVING IN PARADISE OUT EAST NEED TO VENTURE INTO THE CITY—AND WHEN THEY DO, HERE’S WHERE YOU’LL FIND THEM.

ZOE HOARE, CO-OWNER OF NEW ENGLISH COUNTRY HOME (englishcountry antiques.blogspot.com) in Sagaponack “My current favorite place is the new Whitby Hotel (18 W. 56th St., 212-586-5656; firmdale hotels.com). The art that the owner, Kit Kemp, collects is always inspiring; if I don’t have time to visit a gallery or museum, the pieces scattered throughout the hotel are just as relevant. And if I’m traveling with Athena, my Olde Tyme American bulldog, it’s a dog-friendly hotel.” TERRIE SULTAN, DIRECTOR OF PARRISH ART MUSEUM (parrishart.org) “I spend a lot of time visiting galleries in Chelsea. Taking a walk on the High Line (thehigh line.org) provides a beautiful respite. The marriage of art and nature [there] is, in my mind, a lovely urban reinforcement of that same blend I experience at the Parrish every day.”
SARA MELTZER, CO-OWNER OF
WER2 DESIGN (wer2-studio.com) “My secret weapon is chef Edi Frauneder’s spot Schilling (109 Washington St., 212-406-1200; schillingnyc.com) in Fidi. It’s a great date spot or just fun to hang there with friends. The salmon is superb, as is the crispy cauliflower. But if you want to go true Austrian—which is the menu’s inspiration, after all—the schnitzel is pretty OTT.” JUSTIN TERZI, LANDSCAPE
ARCHITECT (justinterzidesign.com) “I like to bike from Battery Park to Riverside Park, stopping along the way for picnics and sunning. There are so many different gardens and landscape environments in that Hudson River Park chain. Some are pastoral and relaxing, some urban or gritty— they remind me of when all this was a little rough and sketchy. They’re just wonderfully designed, and connected by a biking/jogging/skateboarding path.” — M.E. .
