BOTTLE ROCKET
CELEBRATE SUMMER WITH BUBBLY FROM THE SPECIALISTS AT SOUTHOLD’S SPAR LING POINTE. BY JESSICA SOFFER
Do you know about Sparkling Pointe, the Hamptons’ only all-sparkling vineyard and winery? You should: The setting is gorgeous, the staff is wonderful, and the delicious wines are fast becoming the preferred bubblies for every clambake on the East End—with good reason. Since 2004, Sparkling Pointe has been producing estate sparklers using the méthode champenoise, the time-honored bottle-fermentation techniques of France’s Champagne region. Yet the vibe on-site is hardly pretentious; it’s like a regular winery’s cool bachelor uncle. Hop on the ferry and tour the place or, on July 22, visit the eighth annual Carnaval, celebrating the release of Cuvée Carnaval Rouge with live bossa nova and local food vendors.
Homebodies can join the wine club to receive four deliveries of six bottles per year. “Bubbles are incredibly versatile,” says club manager Eric Elkin. “Our Brut Séduction goes perfectly with a lobster roll but is equally comfortable with duck leg confit. For our Topaz Impérial Brut Rosé, sear some fresh tuna steaks.” You’ll also find Sparkling Pointe wines on tables at EMP Summer House, Wölffer Kitchen, and the Montauk Yacht Club.
All these options prove you can never have too much bubbly. “Sparkling wine exemplifies so much of what the East End is about,” says Elkin. “It’s as appropriate for a beach day as it is for toasting the New Year.” 39750 Rte. 48, Southold, 631-765-0200; sparklingpointe.com
