Good Neighbors

-

If you’re fortunate enough to have a Georgica address, there’s a good chance you’ll be chatting over the fence with a big name.

Martha Stewart lives in a traditional house on Lily Pond Lane but in 1995 bought architect Gordon Bunshaft’s Travertine House on Georgica Pond in order to preserve it. After a feud with neighbor Harry Macklowe, she transferred ownership to daughter Alexis, who later sold it to a buyer who demolished it.

Harry Macklowe recently left his wife for another woman and his house on Georgica Close Road for a small place on West End Road. The divorce is said to be costing $1 billion; the new digs were a mere $10.6 million. Steven Spielberg pioneered Hollywood’s incursion into the Hamptons. He lives in a semi-modernist compound on Georgica Cove that he built years before the modernist revival.

David Geffen bought Courtney Sale Ross’s Cody House compound on Georgica Cove for $52 million in 2014 but then ricocheted out in 2016 for a $70 million purchase of the late Josephine Chaus’s oceanfront estate on Lily Pond Lane.

Jon Bon Jovi lives in a house on the corner of Ocean Avenue and Lily Pond Lane: the former workshop of sculptor E.C. Potter.

Ronald Perelman, with about 60 acres at the head of the pond, constructed or altered multiple structures— sans building permits. His lawyers are proposing creative solutions.
