ORLEBAR BROWN CELEBRATES ITS FIRST TEN YEARS WITH COLLABORATIONS AND AN ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION PERFECTLY TAILORED FOR EAST END MEN. BY CONNOR CHILDERS
Orlebar Brown celebrates its first 10 years with collaborations and an anniversary collection perfectly tailored for East End men.
Building a successful fashion brand in today’s economic climate is no easy feat. Yet that’s just what Adam Brown has accomplished in a short period of time with Orlebar Brown, the luxury men’s resortwear line that has transformed the men’s swim market, and that celebrates its first decade in business this summer.
“The whole idea started forming as a tailored approach to swim shorts, a short you can swim in,” says Brown, the brand’s founder. For the anniversary collection, he revisited his initial inspiration, David Hockney’s painting A Bigger Splash, by pulling in bright, saturated colors and modern takes on 1960s silhouettes. Also mixed in is clear inspiration from global travels, which both the OB man and Brown himself are accustomed to—including the exceptional East End, where Brown frequently visits and vacations.
But the celebration doesn’t stop there: Brown is collaborating with Tumi to create the perfect beach bag, available in a nautical navy option or in one of OB’S iconic photo prints; and with the media company Beautiful Destinations— and artists Sam Feldt and Sanda Anderlon—to produce lines of custom-printed swim shorts.
Orlebar Brown has experienced exceptional growth, and rightfully so. With 20 stores worldwide, a fierce social media presence (if you haven’t searched #Obs around the world, you’ re missing out), an app called Snapshorts, and an unwavering brand identity, one thing is certain: This is just the beginning. 55 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, 631-324-3960; orlebarbrown.com
