We’re in the thick of it this weekend, as we support so many causes and events. So get good, comfortable shoes on and get ready to celebrate the things that make our community great!

Reading, collecting books, and sharing knowledge have always been passions of mine. Hamptons magazine has long sponsored an event I am particularly proud to be part of: East Hampton Library’s Authors Night, happening this Saturday, August 12.

Beginning in 2005 with a handful of dinners and a few hundred attendees, it is now the Hamptons’ premier literary event, with 100 authors and more than 2,500 people attending. The evening begins with the authors reception, with hors d’oeuvres and wine, where you can meet your favorite writers, buy their latest titles, and have the books signed. A separate ticket gets you into a dinner party at the home of an author of your choice, allowing for personal interaction and the chance to learn more about their work. For eight years, Hamptons and our senior editor-at-large, Michael Braverman, have hosted the most coveted dinner of all, at Braverman’s beautiful home—where his two-story library is the spectacular centerpiece. I hope to see you there!

Guild Hall’s annual gala will take place this Friday, featuring a private preview of the museum’s Richard Avedon photography exhibition, “Avedon’s America,” followed by an evening of delicious cocktails, music, dancing, dining, and an art auction. This year, April Gornik hosts, and Bonnie Lautenberg is the honoree.

Also on Friday, join us at the Trunks of Love gala at Dopo La Spiaggia in East Hampton to benefit Veterinarians International and honor Dr. Jane Goodall, Cornelia Guest, and Penni Ludwig. A live auction will take place during the seated dinner, for items such as a trip with Dr. Scarlett Magda to visit the organization’s Asian elephant veterinary care program in Thailand.

On Sunday, don’t forget to drop by the Watermill Center, which will open its eight-and-a-half acres of beautifully landscaped grounds to the public for Discover Watermill Day. Families can enjoy art installations, performances, workshops, tours, and other activities.

Keep wearing your comfortable shoes and get ready to have some fun in the sun and under the stars. I’ll see you at one of these fabulous events, or I’ll see you in town!
