ROBERT CHALONER

President and Chief Executive Officer, Southampton Hospital

-

The hospital has been serving Hamptonites since 1909. WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL: “We’re a small-town hospital serving a really, really interesting small town,” Chaloner says. “The services we provide are unique and extensive, given our size and what you’d expect in most small towns.” PREVENTIVE MEDICINE: The hospital supplements its traditional medical and emergency services with yoga and exercise classes and alternative therapies like acupuncture and massage, often at little or no cost to participants. “Our wellness program is intended to keep people healthy and out of the hospital.” THE BEST PART OF HIS JOB: “I hear right away what’s really working,” he says. “That almost instantaneous feedback with the community is really wonderful.”

WHAT HE LOVES ABOUT THE

HAMPTONS: “It’s just breathtaking,” Chaloner says. “The 14 miles I drive to work is the most beautiful commute I’ve ever had. It’s like driving through this little picture book of pretty villages.” HOW HE UNWINDS: On weekends he’s usually on his motorboat. “I hop on that boat and dock in Three Mile Harbor. I sit there and just stare out at the scenery.” THE ANNUAL GALA: “I call it the grandmother of all the Hamptons tent parties; it’s the oldest and by far the biggest,” Chaloner says. This year’s gala, the 59th, was held on August 5, with Georgina Bloomberg as honorary chair. WHAT’S NEXT: The hospital recently broke ground on a cancer center scheduled to open next year. 240 Meeting House Lane, Southampton, 631-7268200; southamptonhospital.org
