LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER
FROM THE PUBLISHER
Fashion for fall is always fun and exciting. Though it’s still the middle of August, we look forward to fall so we can grab our layers of cashmere and wool, get cozy, and enjoy the very best time on the East End: our long and stunning Indian summer. As Coco Chanel said, “Fashion fades; only style remains the same,” and in this issue, look for styles that exemplify our way of life out East: the chic yet downto-earth designs that we enjoy wearing here.
Recently someone posted on my Facebook timeline that the Hamptons aren’t the Hamptons at all; each town has its own distinctive personality, and that is so true. East Hampton has a completely different look and feel than Southampton. Montauk is beachy, a little rugged, and now very fashionforward. Sag Harbor retains the small-town feel it had when it was a whaling village so long ago. Even my little hamlet of East Quogue has its own personality. Westhampton Beach is open late nights on summer weekends, including its shopping destinations and ice cream spots, with music from the Beach Bakery Cafe wafting into the street. It’s a great destination for families or a place to conclude your night out. Each town has many different clothing and accessories shops to choose from, but when you start to explore this time of year, you will see they have one thing in common: fashions for fall in all of the windows.
We will be all across the East End with this weekend’s events! They include the 69th annual Artists & Writers Charity Softball Game, the 2017 Bow Wow Meow Ball for the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, and An Intimate Evening Under the Stars with Michael Bolton, then we finish off the weekend on Sunday with Ellen’s Run! Think fashion fall forward, shop our unique villages across the Hamptons, enjoy all that this beautiful place and time bring to you, and I’ll see you in town.
