FOR PHOTOGRAPHER ZEV STARR-TAMBOR, THE HAMPTONS IS A SERENE WAY OF LIFE. AS TOLD TO DANIELLE COHEN

-

“The ocean keeps me coming back East. I first came to the Hamptons from the mean streets of Soho when I was 10 years old. That summer I found an old beat-up surfboard in the woods and spent every day at Georgica Beach trying to ride it. It wasn’t until the summer after that I discovered surf wax.

“The light, the salt water, the easy way with people who grow up knowing each other in a small town— all influence the way I see the world and how I frame my image. Growing up with so much artistic history around me made me endlessly curious about beauty, photography, and art.

“I can go a whole month out here with no shoes and salt water permanently drying in my hair. In September, when I’m back to real life in NYC, I sometimes find sand still in my hair weeks later and laugh.

“There is a perfect synergy out here of natural wonders and wonderful people. You can wear your finest to Sunset Beach and pretend you are in Cannes, or you can go barefoot to Hampton Chutney and walk to the ocean by yourself. Live it the way you feel it.” @zevst
