“WOMEN PAINTING WOMEN”
Opening May 15, this exhibition at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth takes its inspiration from Linda Nochlin’s landmark 1971 essay, “Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?” which argued for reappraising the male-dominated Western canon. Spotlighting the work of 46 modern and contemporary figurative painters, from Alice Neel (above) to Amy Sherald, the show explores the dynamic nature of the female gaze through a diverse range of subjects, including women of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and pregnant women.
