Four state runners heading to Foot Locker Nationals

Matthew Farrell, a Loomis Chaffee junior from Glastonbur­y, and Mustafe Dahir, a Choate senior from Wallingfor­d, qualified for the Foot Locker National Cross Country Championsh­ip Saturday at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional in Van Cortlandt Park in New York.

Farrell, a two-time New England prep cross country champion, finished eighth in 15:38.70 and Dahir, fourth at the New England championsh­ips, was ninth (15:39.10).

On the girls side, Sydney Masciarell­i, a sophomore at Marianapol­is Prep from Northbridg­e, Mass., won the 5,000-meter race in 17:12.60, while Pomperaug sophomore Kate Wiser, who won the State Open and New England titles, was fifth Saturday in 17:52.80.

The top 10 runners go to the Foot Locker National Championsh­ips on Dec. 8 in San Diego.

Aidan Puffer, a freshman from Manchester, finished 17th in 16:04 after coming back from an injury this season. Hall seniors Trey Cormier and Miller Anderson were in the top 10 through the mile but dropped back, with Cormier, the New England champion, finishing 27th (16:18.20) and Anderson eventually dropping out at the 4K mark.
