Hartford sees three shooting incidents within 12 hours
Police have arrested two Hartford men after three shootings within 12 hours on Friday and Saturday.
Jose Rivera, 30, of Hartford, was charged with third-degree larceny, tampering with a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Joshua
Ramos, 31, also of Hartford, was charged with theft of a firearm, unlawful discharge, reckless endangerment and interfering with police.
Two of the shootings — a drive-by on
Franklin Avenue on Friday and an incident in which five rounds were fired on
Wethersfield Avenue on Friday — remain under investigation. None of the people who were shot suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.
Officers responding to 180 Franklin Ave. about 3:15 p.m. Friday following a ShotSpotter alert found spent bullet casings and property damage. The staff at Hartford Hospital told police a gunshot victim had been dropped off and said he had been shot while standing on Franklin Avenue. The victim — a 22-year-old Hartford man — suffered a single gunshot wound to the lower back.
Later Friday night, the staff at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center notified police that a person had come to the hospital with a graze wound to his left heel. He had attempted to treat the injury himself before going to the hospital, police said. Police that determined the injury was also a result of the Franklin Avenue shooting.
By reviewing surveillance cameras, police determined the incident was a drive-by shooting and that the vehicle involved had been stolen from Canton on Wednesday.
At 6:58 p.m. Friday, police responded to the area of Wethersfield Avenue and East Elliott Street following a ShotSpotter alert that five rounds had been fired there. Officers found spent bullet casings and property damage indicating evidence of gunfire.
Hartford Hospital told police a man had driven himself to the hospital and was being treated for non-life threatening gunshot wounds to the shoulder and neck. Police said that man — Rivera — drove himself to the hospital in a car listed as stolen from Franklin Avenue. Police said Rivera was uncooperative about the shooting. He was charged and is being held on $25,000 bond.
Just before 3 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to 15 East Elliot St. after a report that a person had been shot. Police found 31-year-old Joshua Ramos, who had suffered a single gunshot wound to his foot; police said they determined that he unintentionally discharged the gun, causing his own injury. He initially provided police a fake name, but officers later determined Ramos’ identity and found that he had several active warrants and filed the charges against him, police said. Ramos was still being treated at Hartford Hospital on Saturday. He will be held on $250,000 bond.
Police recovered a .44-caliber handgun that had been reported stolen from Wethersfield.
