Hartford police are investigating an armed carjacking near Trinity College late Thursday night by juveniles who crashed the stolen car a couple of blocks away.

The victims — Trinity students — were not injured, the college said in a campus-wide email Friday morning.

Police said the juveniles are expected to survive.

The holdup happened in the Trinity Commons parking lot about 9:45 p.m. Thursday, according to the email. Three juveniles, one of whom reportedly had a gun, approached two students who had just parked their car and told them to drop their keys.

The students complied, and the three juveniles took the keys and took off in the students’ car, the email said.

Lt. Paul Cicero said the car crashed in the area of 500 New Britain Ave. Two suspects were taken to Connecticut Children’s after the crash; a third had run away.

Police found a pellet gun in the car, he said. No one was arrested as of mid-afternoon Friday.

Trinity’s campus safety office will work with police to further investigate the incident, according to the school email.

“We are deeply sorry that this incident has occurred on our campus,” the email concluded. “If you are concerned for your safety, please know that walking escorts are available upon request at any time.”

The campus safety department also operates the oncampus shuttle Sunday through Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., the email noted. The off-campus shuttle operates daily from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
