The Connecticu­t minimum wage rises to $11 an hour Tuesday.

The minimum wage in Connecticu­t is set to increase to $11 an hour on Tuesday.

The General Assembly approved the higher minimum wage in partyline votes this spring. In the House, all Republican­s opposed the legislatio­n. All Democrats, except two, voted for it. In the Senate, no Democrats opposed the measure and no Republican­s voted for it. Gov. Ned Lamont signed the new minimum wage law in May.

By the numbers, here are the details:

It’s $11, not $15 to start

The hourly minimum wage will rise to $11 as of Oct. 1, up from $10.10. The minimum wage will rise until it reaches $15 an hour on June 1, 2023.

The last time the minimum wage was increased was 2014, to $10.10 an hour, from the previous $9.60.

Federal minimum wage is still $7.25

Twenty eight states and Washington, D.C., mandate a minimum wage higher than the federal wage as of July 12. When the state minimum wage is higher, employers are required to pay workers the higher amount.

This is the number of workers in Connecticu­t who made less than $15 an hour between January 2018 and March 2019.

This is the percentage of businesses that told the Connecticu­t Business and Industry Associatio­n that they will cut employment to adjust to the higher minimum wage. According to the CBIA, 13.5% of businesses say they will raise prices to absorb the higher labor cost.
