Central rolls on road; Trinity, Wesleyan win
Danley Exilhomme ran for two touchdowns and Aaron Winchester threw for 275 yards and a score and visiting Central Connecticut State beat Sacred Heart 28-3 on Saturday in Fairfield.
Central Connecticut (4-1, 2-0 Northeast) established control of the line of scrimmage early and was never challenged. The Blue Devils didn’t score on the opening drive but still used up over six minutes on a 12-play, 76-yard drive.
The defense then held Sacred Heart to minus-1 yard and forced a threeand-out before the offense marched on a 10-play, 54yard drive that ended when Exilhomme scored from 5 yards.
Tyshaun James scored on a 4-yard run in the second quarter and Central Connecticut led 14-3 at halftime. In the third, Winchester threw a 10-yard TD to James and Exilhomme’s 1-yard plunge with 3:03 left in the quarter made it 28-3.
The Blue Devils outgained Sacred Heart 464238. Julius Chestnut ran for 111 yards on 19 carries for Sacred Heart (3-2, 1-1).
Trinity 31, Hamilton 24: At Hartford, Seamus Lambert connected with Jonathan Girard on a 10yard touchdown pass with 8:24 remaining to break a tie and give the Bantams the NESCAC win.
Lambert had 245 yards passing and three TDs on the day for Trinity (2-2). Tijani Harris ran 25 times for 115 yards and a score, and Koby Schofer caught five passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns.
Hamilton (2-2) tied the game early in the fourth quarter when Christian Donohue caught a 42-yard pass from Kenny Gray and then converted the twopoint conversion.
Wesleyan 20, Bowdoin 13: At Brunswick, Maine, Glenn Smith scored on a 31-yard run with 3:52 remaining to lead the undefeated Cardinals (4-0) to the NESCAC road win.
Bowdoin (0-4) drove to the Wesleyan 23-yard line on the next drive but came up short and turned the ball over on downs.
Smith had 108 yards rushing on the day, while quarterback Ashton Scott rushed for a TD and hit Dario Highsmith on an 8-yard scoring pass for another.
Yale 48, Fordham 24: At New Haven, Kurt Rawlings passed for 301 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two scores to lead Yale. Rawlings completed 16 of 22 passes with one interception for the Bulldogs (3-0).
Yale took control in the first half and never looked b a c k . Re e d K l u b n i k capped a nine-play, 82yard drive with a 3-yard TD run for a 7-0 lead. Sam Tuckerman’s 33-yard field goal put the Bulldogs up 10-0, but on Fordham’s first play after the ensuing kickoff Tim DeMorat connected with Fotis Kokosioulis for a 70-yard score to pull the Rams (2-4) within 10-7.
Rawlings answered with a 3-yard touchdown run and then hooked up with Mason Tipton for a 48-yard scoring strike 7 seconds into the second quarter to give Yale a 24-7 advantage.
Fordham closed within 24-10 on an Andrew Mevis 37-yard field goal, but Rawlings hit J.P. Shohfi for a 69-yard score and added a 1-yard TD run after Shohfi returned a Fordham punt 37 yards to the 2-yard line. Kyle Ellis ended Yale’s 45-point first half when he returned an interception 23 yards for a TD.
DeMorat, who finished 19-of-34 passing for 298 yards and three TDs, had scoring tosses of 33 yards to Jeff Ciccio and a 22yarder to Dequece Carter in the fourth quarter for the Rams. Kokosioulis finished with eight catches for 136 yards.
