Forrest scores late to lift Glastonbury to win over Southington, state title

NEW BRITAIN – They had already met once before this season, but in the Class LL girls soccer championship at Veterans Stadium in New Britain, Glastonbury got some payback against CCC rival Southington, once again taking home the LL title with a 1-0 victory.
Sam Forrest, who had been integral for the Tomahawk offense all season, scored the game-winning goal for Glastonbury (15-1-1) with 5:29 left to play in the second half. Senior Mackenzie Baker feathered a beautiful through ball into the box that Forrest collected and buried home in the lower left corner.
For the Tomahawks, it avenged a 3-0 loss to the Blue Knights during the season.
“It means the world because some of my best friends on the team are the seniors,” Forrest said. “I had to do it for them. I had to get them another win because they hadn’t won since freshman year.
