One man killed, 2 injured, in shooting
NEW HAVEN — One man was killed and two others were injured after a gunman opened fire Thursday afternoon in the Fair Haven neighborhood, police said.
Roberto Rivera, 34, died Friday at Yale New Haven Hospital, where he had been rushed for treatment immediately after the shooting, police said.
Officers responded to reports of a double shooting in the area of Lloyd and Exchange streets about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Capt. Anthony Duff said.
When they arrived, they found Rivera suffering a gunshot wound to the head, Duff said. A 28-year-old Fair Haven man also came forward with a gunshot wound to his hand. He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment.
About 9:25 p.m., another victim from the shooting, a 20-year-old man from Waterbury, arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle. Duff said he suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg and it is believed he went to another home after the shooting before having someone drive him to the hospital.
Investigators believe the men had been outside near a corner convenience store or walking in the neighborhood when some unknown gunman opened fire on them, Duff said.
Police Chief Otoniel Reyes announced Friday that police believe the shooting was targeted.
The incident remains under investigation. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the department at 203-946-6304.
