Donald U. Beerworth, 81, of Ellington, formerly of Vernon, loving husband of 54 years of Dorothy “Dottie” (Lanz) Beerworth passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2020. Don was born on June 5, 1939 in Newport, Vermont, son of the late Alton and Bernice (Hazard) Beerworth. He was a 1957 graduate of Rockville High School and a member of the RHS Athletic Hall of Fame. Don earned a Masters degree from Eastern CT. State College where he played baseball, basketball and soccer and was inducted into ECSU’s Hall of Fame for all three sports. Prior to his retirement in 1996, Don was a Math Teacher at Ellington Middle School for over 35 years, where he coached 3 sports. He was the former President of the Central Ct. Soccer Officials Associatio­n, a member of the Manchester Chapter of the CT. Baseball Umpires and the New England Collegiate Soccer Officials. Don was the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Northeast School Federal Credit Union. He was a longtime member of the First Congregati­onal Church in Vernon. He enjoyed golfing, watching NASCAR, playing cards with friends and he was an avid UConn Husky Men & Women’s Basketball fan. Don’s greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchild­ren. He was a loving, dedicated husband, father and grandfathe­r who will be greatly missed. In addition to his loving wife Dottie, he is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law Debra and Jeffrey Joly of Oakdale and Amy and Andrew Bock of Ellington, his five loved and cherished grandchild­ren Caitlin and Michael Joly of Oakdale, Cade & Abby Bock of Gilbert, AZ. and Lindsay Bock of Ellington, his brother Steven Beerworth and his spouse Mary, two sisters-inlaw Marjorie Warner and her spouse Bruce and Virginia Quattriopa­ni and her spouse David and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his parents, Don was predecease­d by his brother Robert Beerworth and his wife Christine and his brother-in-law Robert Lanz. Funeral services and burial in Ellington Center Cemetery will be private. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributi­ons may be made to the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n, CT.
