Lewanda, Douglas

-

Douglas Mark Lewanda of Yardley, Pennsylvania, formerly of Farmington, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2021 with his wife and children by his side. Doug was born in Brooklyn, New York to Jacqueline Weissman Lewanda and Morton Lewanda. The Lewandas moved to Wantagh, New York in 1959 where Doug spent a happy childhood and attended Douglas MacArthur High School.

Doug received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1976 from the State University of New York at Albany. Upon graduation Doug went to work for Arthur Anderson and Company. He spent the majority of his career in the construction industry. In the last several years he enjoyed being a consultant as CFO Consulting LLC, helping small construction companies with their day to day operations and implementing construction software.

It was at summer orientation at Albany in 1972 that Doug first set eyes on his future wife, Jean Hoffmann. Doug and Jean had 43 wonderful, fun filled years together traveling the world and making the most of every moment. No one loved life more than Doug. He always gave all of himself to everyone in everything he did. His greatest joy was his children, David and Cara, David’s wife Erica, only to be surpassed by his beautiful grandchildren, Jonathan and Alexis.

Doug loved sports and radio broadcasting. He did news and sports on WSUA, the college radio station, and went on to become the Sports Director of the station in his senior year. He was an avid competitive bowler and was proud of his two perfect 300 games. He never stopped working on his golf game.

Doug fought prostate cancer for seven years, at first successfully. In the last eighteen months, he became among the few for whom no treatment could be found. Doug took the brave step of enrolling in a trial of new medications in December that at first seemed to be helping. His hope all along was that if he could not help himself, somewhere down the road he would be helping others.

Doug is survived by his wife, Jean, son David, daughter Cara, daughter-in-law Erica, grandchildren Jonathan and Alexis, sister Jodi Lewanda, brother Eric Lewanda and wife

Amy and nieces Jourdan and Emily, cousins Shelley Haiken, Laurie Kominski and Barry Yanowitz, and uncle Dr. Richard Weissman.
