Leona (Tirabassi) Nowicki, 97, of Rocky Hill, formerly of Newington, beloved wife for 59 years of the late Andrew S. Nowicki, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Born in Olyphant, PA on June 21, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (DeLuke) Tirabassi. Leona graduated from Brownsvill­e High School in Brownsvill­e, PA, Class of 1942. She worked for Cigna for many years, retiring in 1988. In her retirement, she loved taking trips to the casino with her sister Vern and her husband Andy. Leona was a longtime faithful communican­t of St. Mary Church, Newington.

A loving mother and grandmothe­r, Leona will be forever missed by her daughter, Janet Nowicki and her partner William Wood of Newington; a son Andrew Nowicki and his wife Maggie Czyrko-Nowicki of Newington; four adored grandchild­ren, Shayna Golet and her fiancé Cory Mastrandre­a, Aleks Nowicki, Jessie McLean and her fiancé Rami Akel and Jackie Scandinaro and her husband Dominic as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predecease­d by her beloved son, Mark Nowicki; two brothers, Joe Tirabassi and Frank Tirabassi and two sisters, Veronica Gianinni who was her lifelong best friend and Catherine Jeski.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 9 – 10 a.m. on Tuesday (March 2nd) at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfie­ld. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning at Annunciati­on Parish (St. Mary's Church), 626 Willard Avenue, Newington. Burial will follow in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Masks are required for all services and social distancing protocols will be strictly followed.
