Hurlbut, Clinton Munro

Clinton Munro Hurlbut, 86, of Wallingford, CT, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Monday, May 3, 2021. Clint was born on October 9, 1934 to the late Christy (Munro) and Clinton Hurlbut in Waterbury, CT. Clint grew up in Hartford and attended Bulkeley High School, Class of 1952. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hartford and RPI, respectively. He worked at Pratt & Whitney for 35 years and was an engineering manager. Late in his career, he worked with the Nacelle Group and spent 50% of his time in San Diego working with Rohr Industries. During his time in San Diego, he made many great friends. As a youth, he would hitchhike from Monroe Street in Hartford to his caddying assignment at Wethersfield Country Club. When he was in high school, he played semi pro football for the Hartford Charter Oaks and he played baseball in college. While he was attending night school to finish his degree, he worked construction during the day. He helped to build the parking lot and sidewalks of the Aetna Corporate Headquarters in Hartford. Clint was a proud 50-year member of the Masons and a member of the Middletown Elks Club #771. He enjoyed Sunday morning golf at Goodwin Park with his buddies and was a long-time season ticket holder to UCONN basketball and football games. One of Clint's greatest joys was participating in his grandchildren's activities. He rarely missed a sporting event, musical performance, dance recital, awards ceremony, college family weekend or graduation. He had a passion for storytelling, especially those involving family, sports, and historical events. He is one of the survivors of the 1944 Hartford circus fire. Clint especially enjoyed researching his family ancestry. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Katherine; his children: James Hurlbut of Middletown, Nancy Nevins of Berlin, Steve Hurlbut, and his wife Rohini, of Tolland; and his brother, Richard Hurlbut and his wife Suzanne of Griffin, Georgia. He also leaves seven grandchildren: Jason Hurlbut and his wife Annelise, Edward Nevins and his wife Kaitlyn, Matthew Nevins and his wife Shay, Nicholas Nevins, Gabrielle Hurlbut, Alyssa Hurlbut and Natalie Hurlbut; as well as four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 13 at 10:00 am at First Congregational Church, 355 Main Street, Cromwell. Burial will follow in Indian River Cemetery in Clinton. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, May 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell. In honor to celebrate a great life well-lived, there will be a reception at the Westbrook Elks following the burial.
