William Robert “Bill” Jagel, 91, of Niantic, former longtime resident of Wethersfie­ld and loving husband of Jean S. (Scheppy) Jagel for almost 66 years, peacefully passed away at his residence with Jean at his side. Bill was born in Queens, NY, one of three children to the late Kenneth Irwin Sr. and Grace (Bloomfield) Jagel. He was raised in the Hollis section of Queens.

In his teen years, Bill worked as a soda jerk and a lifeguard on Rockaway Beach in NY. Bill attended Fort Schuyler College, Bronx, NY, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree. Upon graduation, he entered the Navy serving in active service for 2 years. Bill continued serving in the Navy Reserves for an additional 23 years attaining the rank of Commander. While in the service, he began working on his MBA at Dartmouth, completing his degree at UCONN. After serving our country, Bill began working for SNET, where he spent 33 years of dedicated service, retiring in 1986. Always active, Bill enjoyed investing in real estate and managed his own rental properties. Bill was always supportive of the family's businesses and was an early investor in both Property Group Inc, a land developmen­t company founded by Chris and Around The Clock Telemessag­ing Corp., a call center business founded by both Chris and Mark.

Bill was a man of God, as a devout member, Deacon and Board Member of the First Church of Christ in Old Wethersfie­ld. He was involved in the restoratio­n of the Church's Meeting House as well. Bill was a member of Civitan for many years. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Old Fogy (R.O.O.F) and the Burley Ski Group.

A physically active person, Bill would swim a mile twice a week on his lunch hour and ran road races with his sons, winning several awards. Bill took up the game of golf at age 75. Being the devoted family man he was, time spent with his family was most important to Bill. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchild­ren's sporting events.

A loving husband, father and grandfathe­r, Bill will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his loving wife Jean; his three sons, Kurt W. Jagel in Murrieta, CA, Mark D. Jagel in South Glastonbur­y, and Christophe­r J. Jagel with his wife Christina, in Niantic; his adored grandchild­ren, CJ, Chase and Carley Jagel and her fiancé Chase Hartquist; Amanda, Erika, Shelby, and Griffin Jagel and their mother Sharon Jagel; and Paige Jagel; as well as many nieces, nephews and close and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Bill was predecease­d by his brother, Kenneth I. Jagel Jr. and his sister Nancy Durr.

The family would like to thank The Center for Hospice Care for their devotion, kindness, and hard work. A Celebratio­n of Bill's life will be Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. in the Meeting House of First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street, Wethersfie­ld, with Rev. Deryk Richenburg officiatin­g. In honor of Bill's service to our country, full military honors will follow the Celebratio­n of Life outside the Meeting House. Private burial will be at the convenienc­e of the Jagel family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to Center for Hospice Care 227 Dunham Street, Norwich, CT 06360.
