GAHURA – Andrew William Gahura, 64, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021 after a hiking accident. Born September 2, 1956 in Winsted; the son of the late Andrew and Barbara (Nelson) Gahura. Andy graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1980. He continued his higher education throughout his life, earning the highest score on the Ohio State aeronautical/aerospace engineering exam in 1992.

He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Pilot and Project Engineer, receiving numerous commendation medals. After separating from the military as a Captain, Andy was a proud employee with Pratt & Whitney. Andy's career as a Systems Engineer at Pratt & Whitney spanned 22 years in the Commercial Engines division.

"Andy made significant contributions to the performance monitoring and airline field support disciplines, solving myriad technical issues by applying his depth of expertise. Andy's dedication, intellect, attention to detail and technical skills are inspirational to all of his co-workers and the customers he served. Not only was Andy an amazing expert in his field but an amazing teammate and friend. He drew genuine joy from the work that he did and passed that passion and joy onto those that he worked with. His wry smile and notable (although contained) excitement when he discovered a little nugget that no one else noticed was contagious. He will be sorely missed,” said his friends at Pratt & Whitney.

A few of his joys in life were his classic cars, NASCAR, and passing time discussing daily politics. He is survived by his sister, Roxanne Anstett of FL; nephew, Terry Anstett Jr., and wife Robin of Norfolk; niece, Rhonda Leiberick and husband Kevin of FL; extended family, coworkers and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Terrison Gahura and brother-in-law, Terry Anstett Sr. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Colebrook Center Cemetery, Colebrook with Military Honors.
