James J. Galvin Sr., 85, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Louise (Leonard) Galvin died peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Jim was born in Hartford, CT, on September 24, 1935, son of the late Michael J. and Mary (Riordan) Galvin. He grew up in Hartford and was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School. Jim served our country with the U.S. Army in the U.S., and in Germany during the Cold War.

Jim started work at the former Hartford National Bank part time while in high school and continued working for the bank for more than 43 years, retiring Vice President of Commercial Operations in 1998.

Jim's faith was the center of his life, and he was devoted to his parish church, St. Francis of Assisi, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served in many ministries and always volunteere­d his help with a smile.

Along with his wife, Louise, he leaves his children and grandchild­ren: Teresa Galvin and her husband Bryan Pigeon of Falls Church, VA, and their children Alex and Jake; James J. Galvin Jr., and his wife Gina of South Windsor and their children James III, Jordan, Julia, and Jillian; Kathleen Boughton, and her husband Joseph R. Boughton Sr. of South Windsor, and their children Joseph Jr. and Anthony; Martin J. Galvin and his wife Brandee of Broomfield, CO, and their children Emily, Grace and Chloe; and Dennis M. Galvin and his wife Kelley of South Windsor;- and their children Breanna Galvin Kahn and her husband James, Dennis Jr., Aidan, Hannah and her husband Spencer Martin, Erin and Daniel, his brother, Francis M. Galvin and his wife Judy of Hartford; his sister, Mary Maureen Beaulieu and her husband Paul of South Windsor. He was predecease­d by brothers Joseph M. Galvin and John J. Galvin.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, from 4-7 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. Family and friends may gather on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at 9 a.m., at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Church in South Windsor. Burial will follow at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield.
