Richard Thomas Evans, 87, of East Granby and formerly of Windsor Locks and Windsor, beloved husband for 64 years of Paulette (Klapproth) Evans, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Windsor on December 2, 1933, son of the late James Matthew and Ethel (Logan) Evans, he was raised in Windsor and was a graduate of Windsor High School. After graduation, Richard enlisted in the US Air Force and served during the Korean War era until his honorable discharge in 1957 as an Airman Second Class. While serving in the military, Richard met Paulette Klapproth whom he married in France prior to his discharge from the Air Force. While growing up in Windsor, Richard was took part in many activities including serving as the pitcher on the St. Gabriel CYO Baseball team. After his military career, he returned to Connecticu­t and shortly after took a position with the security department at the Knoll Atomic Laboratory in Windsor. He stayed with the company through several mergers and acquisitio­ns until his retirement as the Captain of Security. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching boxing, especially his favorite boxer, Rocky Marciano, taking his two sons to Riverside Park Raceway in Agawam, MA, and reading and watching history programs about World War II. He admired General George Patton and loved to read biographie­s about him and his favorite performer, Elvis. Besides his wife, he leaves, two sons, William Martin Evans and his wife Carol of Tolland, and John Thomas Evans and his wife Jean of East Granby; a sister, Barbara Huntington of Windsor; a grandson, Zachary Evans of Stafford Springs; a great-granddaugh­ter, Skylar Evans; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by two brothers, Robert and David Evans; and a sister, Carol Dawson. His family will receive friends on Thursday, May 27, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., followed by a graveside service and military honors at 1 p.m., at St. Joseph Cemetery in the Poquonock section of Windsor. The family would like to acknowledg­e Richard's niece, Sandy Evans who as a nurse personally visited, cared for, and enjoyed discussion­s of the “Good Ole Times” with Richard.
