Dorothy (Lupi) Smith 90, of South Windsor, beloved wife for 55 years of the late Charles A. Smith, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 17, 2021. Dorothy was born on October 21, 1930, in Boston, Massachuse­tts daughter of the late Henry and Eva (Saporiti) Lupi. She was raised in Dorchester, attended local schools and was a 1948 graduate of Silver Lamp of Jeremiah E. Burke High School for Girls where she was a member of the National Honor Society. In her later years, she went on to earn an Associate Degree in Fine Arts from Manchester Community College. Dorothy was quite active in the community throughout her years. She was a tireless volunteer with Foodshare, Friends of the South Windsor Public Library and an auxiliary member of the South Windsor Police Dept. She manned the phones for WFSB's Channel 3, “Three-On-Your-Side” hotline, where she was known as “Dot Monday” and worked closely with Deborah Kent. In her early years, Dot worked for WHDH 870 on the dial, and for WBCN Classical Music radio in Boston, MA. She was an avid reader. Her favorite hobbies were her grandchild­ren (with whom she immensely enjoyed sharing the wonders of nature and wildlife), art, animals, learning and conversing in new languages and world travel with her husband. She visited all continents except Antarctica. Dorothy loved her family and was devoted to their happiness. Dorothy had an engaging smile, a fun-loving, energic personalit­y and an eagerness to help that endeared her to others. If you were in trouble she wanted to assist and would work endlessly to resolve your problem and make certain you were treated fairly. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her son and daughter-in-law Blair A. and Rhonda Smith of South Windsor and her two loving grandsons Justin A. Smith and his fiancé Laura Walberg of Manchester and Joshua E. Smith of Middletown. In addition to her husband and parents Dorothy was predecease­d by her daughter Dana A. Smith and her sister Virginia Pozza.The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the kind and compassion­ate care she received from her caretaker, Connie, who took a personal interest in her well-being. Graveside services will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Road in Bloomfield on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 10 am. There are no calling hours.
