- Please sign guestbook at courant.com/obituaries

Rose Collins (91) of Rocky Hill, formerly of Mystic, CT and Sunny Isles Beach, FL) beloved wife of the late Peter Edward Collins, peacefully passed away at her home with a smile on her face and her loving and caring family by her side.

Born and raised in New York

City, Rose loved the excitement of city life. At an early age she decided to be happy, which led to her mission 'to make you smile.' It was a really good day if she could make you laugh. There were many good days. The energy, vitality, and diversity of growing up in Manhattan prepared her for life as a military wife. While she missed her big Italian family, moving around the country and meeting new people excited her and enriched her life. Should could light up a room and shake-up a neighborhood, although she was never able to convince her Hawaiian neighbors to trade their Sunday night rice & poi dinners for spaghetti and meatballs.

Rose Collins knew who she was and was always true to herself. She accepted and embraced people as they were. Having Rose as a friend was like winning the lottery. She loved music and dancing and would break out in a song on a dime. She always had a good story to tell and was the best listener. She loved playing bingo and games and was considered a card shark. She was lucky Rose. She enjoyed crocheting and made hats and blankets for family, friends, and anyone in between. She once tried to make a hat for a nice flight attendant enroute to Miami from Hartford. Not finished by touchdown, she mailed the hat to her.

Rose will be remembered for her zest for life, love of family and friends, compassionate nature, open heart and good humor.

Rose leaves behind her two daughters, Donna Collins and Beverly Fortune of Rocky Hill; her grandsons, Patrick Fortune and Parker Fortune of Rocky Hill (the sunshine of her life); her beloved brother Sam Macaluso and his wife Dorothy of Baldwin, NY; sister-in-law Wanda Macaluso of Mattituck, NY; sister-in-law Marge Dowling of West Palm Beach, FL. She loved her many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews scattered all around the country, and her best friend Marge Mitchell and her family, of Mystic, CT.

In addition to a private family service, A Celebration of Life will be held in Mystic. Should you wish to honor Rose, a contribution to the Rocky Hill Senior Center, c/o Town of Rocky Hill, 761 Old Main St., Rocky Hill, CT 06067, would be greatly appreciated. The dedicated staff made it a happy place to be.
