John W. Callahan, 65, of Vernon, passed away Sunday June 6, 2021 after a brief illness. He was born in Hartford to the late Robert and Katherine (Zahronsky) Callahan. He was a graduate of Northeaste­rn University (1978) and the Valparaiso University School of Law (1990). He practiced law in greater Hartford for over thirty years. John loved nature, trips to Vermont, all animals, particular­ly Siberian Huskies, and was an avid sports fan. The family will dearly miss his frequent commentary on the performanc­es of his beloved Boston Red Sox. He is survived by his beloved friend and companion Susan Callahan of Vernon. He is also survived by brothers, Peter Callahan of NV, Christophe­r Callahan of CO, sisters, Katherine Callahan and husband Jonathan Blancaflor of Haddam, Ruth Pitts and husband Timothy of Nantucket, MA, Marie Callahan and husband Barry Baker of West Hartford, as well as many nieces and nephews, by whom he will be deeply missed. John was predecease­d by his brothers Stephen and Robert. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 22, 2021 at 11 am at Dillon Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfie­ld, CT 06109. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford, CT. Visiting hours will be before the funeral service on Tuesday June 22, 2021 from 9am - 11am at the funeral home.
