Birmingham, Margaret
Margaret Birmingham, age 94, passed away July 23, 2021 in San Antonio TX. Margaret was a resident of West Hartford, CT for sixty-five years, emigrating from Ireland in 1955. She was born in 1927 in Co. Roscommon, Ireland, to Edward Birmingham and Catherine Mullarkey.
Margaret had a career working at Connecticut General and Cigna. She was a long time communicant of St. Mark the Evangelist in West Hartford, a member of the Irish American Home in Glastonbury, and a member of the Parkville Community Senior Center in Hartford for quite a spell of time. She moved to San Antonio in 2015 to be closer to two of her sisters.
Margaret is survived by her four brothers, Thomas, Seamus, and Eddie, all of Mayo and Roscommon, Ireland, and Owen of London, England. She leaves six sisters,
Sr. Hannah Birmingham and Sr. Philomena Birmingham of San Antonio, Tx., Carmel Flanagan of Long Island NY, Ellen Devine of SC, Teresa Laffey and Mary Prattle of
England. Margaret leaves an entire gaggle of nieces, grand nieces and great grand nieces, and a compliment of nephews, grands, and great grands scattered across the United States, Ireland, and England.
Along with her parents she was predeceased by her sisters Catherine Rush of Ireland and Bridie Conway of West Hartford, with whom she made her home for many years. Margaret leaves behind a clan of relatives and friends in the greater West Hartford area: Her cousins The Flynn’s, Kay, Winnie, Jimmy and Michael; The Staunton’s, Bride, Bernie, Vincent, Mary and Maureen; and the Birmingham’s, Junior and Jackie.
Margaret was the aunt who always bought new blue jeans for the nieces and nephews at Christmas and birthdays. (The presents were for the parents we suppose.) We thanked her even though they weren’t toys and loved her all the more.
Margaret’s cremains will be returned to Ireland, to the land where she was born. There is no service scheduled
in Connecticut at this time. Prayers may be directed to the Lady of Knock Shrine, Co. Mayo, Ireland
