- Please sign guestbook at courant.com/obituaries

Stacia Mary Balazy, 101, of Farmington, passed away on July 21, 2021. A life-long resident of Farmington, she was born on February 21, 1920, and resided on Main Street, in her family’s home, which she loved and cherished her whole life.

She attended Farmington High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Joseph’s College in West Hartford. Miss Balazy was a member of St. Patrick’s Church.

She was predeceased by her parents, Stanislawa and Teofil Balazy, her twin brother, Richard J. Balazy, her brother Walter J. Balazy, nephews Richard D. Balazy and Robert W. Balazy. She leaves a niece, Jean Ann Ward of Mesa, Arizona as well as 2 great-nieces and 5 great-nephews.

Miss Balazy taught English at Farmington High School for over four decades. Always the consummate grammarian, Miss Balazy was a stickler for making sure that all written works, whether a student paper, or a piece

of writing that she was asked to edit by the principal or superintendent, had to be in the correct tense with no spelling errors. She supervised the school newspaper and often the school yearbook. An expert on Shakespeare, she could quote verse and stanza, with no hesitation, of almost all of Shakespeare’s collected works.

In 2008, at the Farmington Women Honoring Farmington Women luncheon, she was honored for her “commitment and devotion to Farmington High students” during her teaching career. It was an honor she spoke of with great pride.

Miss Balazy’s greatest joy was that of her home on Main Street where she displayed her “treasures” found antiquing and of her yard that she loved to tend. She also took great pride in being the owner of the oldest house in Farmington known as the Gleason House (1655). Miss Balazy lived a long and interesting life witnessing more than most of us ever will.
