Catherine “Katie” Mitchell, 86 of West Hartford passed away peacefully on Friday, July 30. Born in Bawnmore, Irishtown, Co. Mayo, Ireland, she was the seventh of eight children of the late Dennis and Honor (Martin) Mitchell. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1957 and came to Hartford to join four of her brother and sisters. She

settled in West Hartford and lived here until her passing. She was employed by The Hartford Insurance for 43 years before retiring in 2000. She also worked in sales at Sage-Allen Department Store in Hartford for 21 years. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and as a dutiful sister, daughter, and friend, as well as a generous, caring, and loving aunt. A person of great faith, she was a communican­t of St. Mark the Evangelist Church, West Hartford and prayed The Rosary daily for family and friends in need of help and grace.

Catherine is survived by her brother Patrick Mitchell of Ireland and her nieces and nephews and their families including Mary Spillane, Joseph Quinn, Sheila Quinn, James Quinn, Kathleen Quinn, Nancy Makles, Joanne Morrissey, Jacqueline Quinn, Joseph Horan, Mary Anne Ryan, Theresa Stross and Father Eugene Mitchell in the United States and Sean, Dennis and Patrick Dolan of Ireland. She was predecease­d by her sisters Mary “Anne” Horan, Bridget “Bridie” Quinn and Nora Dolan and her brothers Dennis, James, and Peter Mitchell. She was also predecease­d by her longtime companion Stephen Forgiel and her nephews Dennis Mitchell and James Horan.

Her dedicated and loving caregiver, niece Kathleen Quinn, has been by her side providing care and companions­hip (and a lot of laughs!) for 10 years, for which Catherine (and the rest of the family) was very grateful.

Funeral procession will be Thursday, August 5, 10:00 AM from the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM in St. Mark the Evangelist Church, West Hartford. Burial will follow in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Calling hours are prior to the funeral 9:00-10:00 at the funeral home.
