Mahoney, Raymond William
Raymond William Mahoney Jr, 78, passed away July 23, 2021 at his home in Tarpon Springs, Florida surrounded by family after a courageous fight with cancer. Ray was born October 2,1942 to Raymond Sr and Mary (Saverick) Mahoney in Hartford, Connecticut the oldest of three children. He graduated from Harford Public High School in 1960. Ray served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Proteus (AS-19) 1960-1964.
Ray met his wife of 57 years, Paula (Ratell) Mahoney in 8th grade dance class and they were later married in Hartford, Ct. Together they raised 3 children in Wethersfield, Ct. He was an electrical contractor and owner of A&M Electric.
His love of sports began with his participation in high school football and led to his involvement in youth
athletic programs in varied roles but his true passion was hockey. He served as a coach for the Wethersfield High School hockey team and was inducted into the school's Sports Hall of Fame.
In 2010 he retired from his business to Tarpon Springs, Florida. He loved playing cards, fishing and boating, and jigsaw puzzles. Ray spent endless hours and covered innumerable miles looking in antique shops, estate sales and auctions for that rare piece of glass he could add to his collection. He and Paula were lucky enough to have traveled the United States participating as dealers on the depression glass circuit. He was proud to be called upon for his expertise in elegant depression glass. In 2019, he took over the running of the Clearwater Depression Glass show.
Ray is survived by his wife, Paula; son Michael (Lisa) Mahoney of Tarpon Springs Florida; daughters MaryBeth (Bob) Nolan of Chicago, Illinois and Michelle Mahoney of New Britain, Connecticut; a brother Edward Mahoney of Windsor, Connecticut and grandchildren,
Kyle and Katrina Mahoney, Abigail and Benjamin Nolan, Andrew Parsons and Alysha Cook and seven greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Beverly McGill and his grandson Adam Ratell Parsons. The family would like to thank Ciara and Katie from Suncoast Hospice for the care they provided to Ray. Funeral Services will be at St. Ignatius of Antioch Roman Catholic Church, 715 E Orange Street, Tarpon Springs, Florida, on Saturday August 14, 2021 at 11am.
