Olsen, Nancy Louise (Gillis)

Nancy Louise (Gillis) Olsen age 93, of Granby and Simsbury, passed away peacefully at the McLean on July 24, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty-five years, James "Jim" Franklin Olsen. Nancy and

Jim were 55 year residents of Granby.

Nancy was born in Mineola, L.I., New York on December 31, 1927 to Irene Crawford Gillis and John Ronald Gillis.

She was the great-granddaughter of a wounded veteran of the Grand Army of the Republic and the granddaughter of a blacksmith and a wooden wheel fabricator.

She is survived by three sons, Andrew James with

spouse Susan of Amesbury, MA, Peter Chandler of Richland, WA and Eric Gillis with spouse Kathy of

Southbury, CT. Also surviving is a cousin, Ann Shinkle with husband Raymond of Great Island, FL and a special nephew Mike Olsen with spouse Sue of Loveland, CO. Nancy was blessed with four grandchildren: Timothy R Olsen with spouse Shyang Wang of New York, New York, Alexandra I. Olsen with spouse Benjamin B. Laughlin of Rochester, New York, Geoffrey J. Olsen of Brooklyn New York and Alina G. Olsen of Kennewick, Washington. Nancy was fortunate to have the long time care and love from Denise Canora. Also caring for her were the nurses and aids from McLean – too many loving, motivating, attending yet firm staff to individually name. A private burial is planned at Granby Cemetery with a memorial service for Nancy's many friends to be announced in the autumn. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Granby Land Trust, P.O.
