Wetmore, Leigh

-

Leigh Flicker Wetmore, age 73, the beloved wife of Phillip S. Wetmore passed

away peacefully at her home on August 6, 2021 in the loving arms of her husband. Leigh was the daughter of Robert S. and Barbara Fricker. Leigh was born on August 13, 1947 in Stamford, CT. She later moved to Essex, CT where she attended Valley Regional High School. She continued her education at St. Bonaventure where she graduated with a degree in English. After college Leigh worked for Connecticut General Insurance Company in Hartford, then worked for Centerbrook Architects in Centerbrook, CT. She spent the next ten years as the receptionist where she was called “The Voice of Centerbrook.” Leigh left Centerbrook to work with her husband Phil Wetmore at Wetmore’s Marina in Westbrook, CT. Leigh soon became loved by everyone she met at the marina. We were blessed to have her work beside Phil and she made the marina a real family place of business. Leigh loved to travel around the United States of America. For 15 winters Leigh and Phil, along with “Rosie” took their motor coach to every national park and most states in this beautiful country. Besides Phil, Leigh leaves her loving sister Joan and Vic Burritt of Greer, SC, niece Susan. L. Hinkle of Charlotte, NC, and nephew Steven (Edie) Burritt of Lexington, SC as well as many cousins and great nieces. She was also predeceased by her sister Sharon. Leigh also leaves behind her sister in law Brenda (David J. ) Adamiec, their daughter Heather Nicholson Glover and her children, son David Adamiec and son, and David J.’s daughter Chrisja and her family.

Leigh was a long time member of the Westbrook Congregational Church, as is her husband Phil. They both sang in the church choir and Leigh became a Stephen Minister. Leigh was always an upbeat, optimistic, loving and caring person who would always greet

you with a big smile and hug or a kiss! She brought out the best in others, tending to those in need as she found them. She was the “Card Queen,” not missing a birthday card, holiday card, anniversary card, you name it. Your hand-picked, beautifully written card was waiting for you on that day. She based her life on loving others and always reaching out. She made friends wherever she went! May she rest in peace with our dear Lord. Anyone considering a remembrance honoring Leigh should consider our Westbrook Congregational Church at 1166 Boston Post Road, Westbrook, CT 06498. A service of remembrance and celebration will be held at a safer time and will be announced. To share
