Sunken Garden Poetry Festival will be held Sept. 10

The 2021 season of the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival at the Hill Stead Museum, 35 Mountain Road in Farmington, will be held Sept. 10 to

12, with headliners Nick Flynn, Martin Espada and Connecticu­t Poet Laureate Margaret Gibson.

The festival will open

Sept. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., Daphne Lee Martin will perform music. At 5:30 p.m. Elizabeth Metzger will give the opening poetry reading. Flynn will read at 6 p.m. and sign books at 7 p.m.

On Sept. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Will Cordeiro, whose work focuses on labor, material goods and other capital-related topics, will hold a workshop. Cordeiro will cover close reading, exercises and discussion­s on the intersecti­on of poetic craft and capitalist­ic practices.

On Sept. 11 from 1:30 to 8 p.m., the festival will continue. An open mic will be held at 2 p.m. and a reading and discussion from “The Poetry of Capital” at 3 p.m. At 4:45 p.m., Jose Gonzalez and Criollo Classico will perform music, and Espada will read at 6 p.m., followed by a book signing.

On Sept. 12 at 11:30 a.m., “Finding Poetic Wilds: A Green Poetry Workshop” will be conducted by David K. Leff.

On Sept. 12 from 1:30 to 8 p.m., the festival will conclude. An open mic will be at 2 p.m. and readings from “Waking Up to the Earth” will be at 3 p.m. A musical performanc­e will take place at 4:45 p.m. and Gibson will read at 6 p.m., followed by a book signing.

A weekend pass is $45, which does not include the workshops. Those are on sale until Sept. 6. Individual afternoon tickets are $15, $10 ages 18 and younger, and $20 after Sept. 6 and at the gate. A livestream ticket is $10 per household. The workshops are $15 each.
