John M. Obermeier, Sr., 85, lifelong resident of West

Hartford beloved husband of the late Joan (Petit) passed away peacefully on August 18, 2021. He was born on June 20, 1936, in Hartford to the late John and Francesca (Purzer) Obermeier. John attended St. Bernard School and graduated from St. Thomas Seminary in West Hartford. He furthered his education at the Rochester Seminary where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in education and accounting. He was a devoted roman catholic and parishione­r of St. Timothy Church in West Hartford. John worked as a Butcher for Copaco and Meadow Meat for many years. In his younger years he earned his pilot license to fly airplanes, then he enjoyed restoring Old Town Canoes, but his passion was his Chow Chow dogs, he was a member of the New England Chow Chow Club. He

raised many dogs over his lifetime and has left behind his companion and best friend, Junior.

John was a loving father, grandfathe­r, great-grandfathe­r, brother, and friend. He is survived by three children, Lisa Lape and her husband Charles, John Michael Obermeier, Jr., and his wife Gina Sellers-Obermeier, and Mary Francesca Lapane; twelve grandchild­ren John-Anthony Levitt and his wife Megan, Deanna Levitt, Alexis and Alexander Lape, Joshua Michael Obermeier

and his wife Lauren, Rebekah Marie Bologna and her husband Nick, John Sellars and Patrick Sellers and his wife Samantha, Andrew Lapane, Jack Lapane, Brandon Raheel, and Antonio Clausel; five great-grandchild­ren, Michael John-Anthony Levitt, Gabriella Mackenzie Bologna, Anastasia Elizabeth Bologna, Madison Renay Didato, Mackenize Grace Obermeier; his sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Ettl and her husband Joseph and extended family and friends. In addition to his wife Joan, John was predecease­d by his granddaugh­ter, Sarah Mary Ann Obermeier.

Relatives and friends may join the family for calling hours on Monday, August 23, 2021, from 4:30 pm 6:30 pm at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 24, at 10:00 am at St. Timothy Church, West Hartford, CT. Burial will follow, and he will be laid to rest alongside his wife in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery.
