Eleanor Mahar 1928-2021 Eleanor Mahar died peacefully on June 2, 2021, in Yarmouth, Maine. She was born in Maine in 1928, the sixth of seven children. She had one sister and five brothers, all

of whom pre-deceased her. She grew up in the Portland area and attended the public schools of South Portland. Eleanor earned her B.S. from Farmington Teachers College, a branch of the University of Maine, and did post-graduate work at the University of Maine and at the University of Connecticu­t. She also worked on her master's degree at the University of Hartford and the University of Portland, Oregon.

Teaching was her life's work for forty years, thirty-two of which were in Rocky Hill, Connecticu­t, teaching Home Economics. Many of her students remember her fondly as “Miss Mahar” and some of her friends at church dubbed her “Miss Ellie”. For fifty years she was an active member of the Rocky Hill Congregati­onal Church, serving in a variety of roles and singing in the

choir with her beautiful soprano voice.
