Skidding Athletic loses to Red Bulls II, 2-0

MONTCLAIR, N.J. — Jake LaCava scored what proved to be the winning goal 12 minutes in and the New York Red Bulls II defeated Hartford Athletic 2-0 in a USL Championsh­ip game on Saturday night at MSU Soccer Park.

With the win, New York extended the Athletic losing streak to three games and Hartford (8-9-3) has lost five of six to fall into sixth place in the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division. With 27 points, Hartford still remains in the playoff hunt, just a point behind Charlotte and Charleston, currently tied for fourth with 28 points. The top four teams in the division make the postseason.

Athletic never managed to get their offense going with no shots on goal in the game.

Serge Ngoma scored New York’s second goal, putting the game out of reach in extra time.

Hartford returns home to face Louisville City FC on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Dillon Stadium.
