Burrill, Janice A.

-

Janice A. Burrill passed away in her sleep on August 31, 2021.

Jan (as she is known by her family) was born March 11, 1941, the third child of Helen

(Bach) and Lloyd Burrill in Bristol, CT.

Jan graduated from Central Connecticut State College with a degree in teaching. During summers she jointly

ran a dance studio in Bristol. Dance was a special love of Jan's. In fact, all performance art was a great joy.

The entire English teaching career of 30 years was at Newington High School. She held small plays and Shakespear readings by students in class. A student once wrote a poem and a couple of lines captured her well,”She talks with hands wide apart. And does not let jokes go to heart. Italian!!” No doubt her students have loved reading all their lives. Jan had one of the best cadre of friends. Jan was loyal, true to her values and generous to the end.

Jan was predeceased by her mother and father, brother Thomas Burrill, niece Catherine Burrill, niece Dawn (Burrill) Rioux and sister-in-law Norma (Robert) Burrill. Family who will carry on her memory are Nancy (Leo) Champagne of OR, Robert Burrill and sisters Sandy and Donna Burrill of CO. There are also, niece Linda Champagne of CA, nephew Bryan Burrill of CT, and great-niece Christine Burrill of NM, cousins Jean (Donald) Showalter of ME and Leslie Jephson of FL.

Jan requested no formal service and in lieu of flowers please donate to a non-profit of your choice. Jan supported many, especially wildlife and humane society organizations. Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington is assisting her family. To share a memory with Janice's family, please visit us at www.duksa.net
