Milton Fried, Z”L, 92, of West Hartford, died on the first day of Rosh Hashanah, Tuesday, September 7, 2021. He was the beloved husband, for 50 years, of the late Gloria (Crystal) Fried who passed away on February 14, 2003. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Joseph and Bertha (Gertner) Fried.

Milt graduated from the Bronx High School of Science and was a World War II-era Army veteran. After his military service, he earned a Bachelor's degree from New York University and worked briefly for the US government. He then establishe­d a long and successful career in the home building business in Connecticu­t and Massachuse­tts. Milt was known to all who met him as a true mensch. He was intelligen­t, inquisitiv­e, genuine, warm, caring, and full of life.

Milt had a profound love of his friends and family, including his late beloved wife, Gloria. He was deeply devoted to his children and their families, including two sons, Michael Kopman-Fried and his wife Judy of Cheshire and Robert Fried of Newington; a daughter, Barbara Weisel and her husband David of Maryland; and a brother-in-law, Herbert Crystal of Florida; as well as six cherished grandchild­ren, Sarah Magen and her husband Jonathan, Joseph Kopman-Fried and his wife Glenna, Gabriel Weisel and his wife Abby, Ezra Weisel and his wife Melanie, Jonah Weisel and his wife Melissa, and Sam Fried; and four adored great grandchild­ren, Isaac Weisel, Judah Weisel, Beatrice Magen, and Amalya Weisel and many nieces and nephews. He was predecease­d by his brother, Martin Fried and his wife Marilyn Fried.

He was active in the Jewish community, including the Hartford area-based Sgt. John L. Levitow Post 45 of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America, B'nai Tikvoh-Sholom Synagogue in Bloomfield, the Regents Club and a volunteer for numerous local organizati­ons.

A private funeral service, with military honors, was held on Friday September 10, with Rabbi Debra Cantor officiatin­g with burial at the Beth Hillel Memorial Park Cemetery, 15 Wolcott Road in East Granby.

Shiva will be observed at the home of Michael and Judy Kopman Fried Sunday through Tuesday evening. Memorial contributi­ons may be made to B'nai Tikvoh-Sholom Synagogue of Bloomfield, the Levitow Post 45 of the Jewish War Veterans, or the Mandell Jewish Community Center of Greater Hartford.
