Paul Raymond Deshaies, 79, of New Britain passed away on August 23, 2021. Born in New Britain on September 17, 1941, Paul was the son of the late Raymond Rene and Florence Louise (Pauze) Deshaies. Paul attended St. Mary and St. Thomas Aquinas High Schools, both located in New Britain. Paul worked as a public safety supervisor at Wesleyan University for 13 years and retired at 56 years young. Paul moved to Old Saybrook in 1993 and enjoyed life by the water. Paul loved to walk ten miles a day from the beach and all over the shoreline area. He enjoyed retirement by hiking with his neighbor's dog, Dusty and enjoying beach life. Paul would go kayaking and spend entire days at the beach. He spent many days with his dear friends Barbara, Dick, and Joan exploring the shoreline, going out to eat, and site seeing. Paul loved reading historical books and listening to classical music. He also loved to watch really loud action movies and even had a room dedicated to a great sound system to enjoy every explosion. In 2019, Paul moved back to New Britain to Arbor Rose for care. He became known as “the guy with the fish” after he had his 20-gallon fish tank moved from his home in Old Saybrook to Arbor Rose. Paul made many friends at Arbor Rose in his two years there. In addition to his parents, Paul is predeceased by his dear friend Barbara Dowd. Paul is survived by and will be dearly missed by: his brother Frank Deshaies and his wife Nancy, of Yarmouth Port, MA; nephew Mike Deshaies of Fryeburg, ME; niece Patricia McPherson of Plymouth, MA; and his longtime friends, Joan Saucier, of New Britain and Dick Shivok, of New Britain. Paul's family and friends would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff at Arbor Rose of New Britain for their kind and compassionate care. There will be no services for Paul and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association at act.alz.org/donate. New Britain Memorial & Donald D.
