Threatenin­g anti-vaccinatio­n emails should be investigat­ed

Elected officials in Middletown, the state legislatur­e and Congress received alarming emails early last month expressing fury over proposed vaccine mandates and saying, “I am armed and ready to protect my liberty and freedom of choice you POS !!!!! ”

The three messages were received shortly after midnight on Aug. 6 over the name of then-acting Middletown police chief Michael Timbro, who later denied he sent them. The messages touched off a series of events that have been kept secret until now. The public needs to know more about this.

The early morning emails demanded that the public officials “do everything in your power to ban Vaccine Mandates and Passports.” The messages purported to have come from Timbro, who was on vacation at the time.

Timbro has told police investigat­ors that he did not send the messages. Capitol Police have closed their investigat­ion.

The three messages I’ve seen include escalating amounts of vile abuse culminatin­g with this ominous declaratio­n: “You better not mandate any BS vaccine or I will lead the revolt to a freedom of choice nation. This america home of the free and I WILL FIGHT FOR MY FREEDOM. —— VACCINE MANDATES !!!!!!!!!!!! And yes I am armed and ready to protect my liberty and freedom of choice you POS !!!!! ”

Although Timbro has denied sending the messages, the aftermath for him and Middletown is far-reaching. Timbro, a 26-year veteran of the Middletown police force, became the acting chief in June 2020 when the incumbent retired. Timbro applied for the chief ’s position and was a finalist for the post when the emails appeared.
