Canton-Granby co-op edges Stafford in defensive battle

The co-op of Granby and Canton withstood three defensive touchdowns from Stafford/East Windsor/ Somers to edge the Bulldogs 20-19 on Friday at Canton.

Will Migliaccio found Khalil Thomas for a 1-yard TD to open the scoring and Luke Maher added a 12-yard intercepti­on return to give the Bears (2-0) the early 14-0 lead. But Stafford (1-1) pulled back within one on two intercepti­on returns for TDs in the second quarter by Logan Briggs and Timmy Dickinson.

Charlie Attianese added to the Granby lead with a 6-yard TD run in the fourth. Briggs added another defensive TD on a 45-yard fumble return to pull within one but Granby stopped the two-point conversion to seal the game.

Hartford Public 14, Lewis Mills 13: Two fourth-quarter touchdowns propelled Hartford Public over visiting Lewis Mills. Jaheim Cole scored on a 3-yard run and Christian Garcia returned a punt 53 yards for a score to give Hartford (2-0) the win. Jack Stanislaw tossed two TDs for Lewis Mills (1-1) in the first half, finding Colby Cables and James Roben to give Mills the early lead.

Platt 43, Middletown 7: The dual threat of Amari Robinson and Zyair Coleman carried Platt to a road victory at Middletown. Robinson rushed 10 times for 139 yards and a TD and Coleman rushed for 45 yards and two scores. Corey Ford added a fourth rushing TD for Platt (1-1) and Robinson passed for 84 yards and a TD. David DeLeon had a 69-yard rushing TD for the lone Middletown (0-2) score.

Bristol Central 27, South Windsor 0: Four touchdowns from Victor Rosa helped propel the Rams (1-1) to a CCC Tier 3 win at home over South Windsor (0-2). Rosa rushed for three touchdowns andd a fourth on a 37 yard pass to Damion Glasper.

Maloney 34, Conard 14: Kenny McMillian rushed for three touchdowns to lead Maloney over Conard in a CCC Tier 1 game at Falcon Field. Joshua Boganski rushed for a score and Spencer Studlet found Ian Graham for another for Maloney (1-1). Israel Lopez passed and ran for a touchdown for Conard (1-1).

Morgan 36, Haddam-Killingwor­th 22: Andrew Nye tossed five touchdowns and Morgan edhed H-K in a Pequot Sassacus matchup. Ethan Ranaudo and Alex Fratamico each caught two TDs for Morgan (1-1). Orion Inkel rushed for two touchdowns for the Cougars (1-1)

Cheshire 28, North Haven 0: Christian Russo rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns as Cheshire picked up a road shutout win. Russo had a 62-yard and 2-yard TD runs for the Rams (2-0). EJ Quint and Danny Zawalich each caught a TD and Kevin D’Errico had 14 tackles for Cheshire.
