DeLauro deserves our thanks for saving Israel’s Iron Dome

With one tweet on Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres, a Democrat from New York City, revealed that he understands what Israel’s left-wing American adversaries will do to endanger the Jewish state.

“A missile defense system (i.e. Iron Dome) defends civilians from missiles. Hence the name.

Only in a morally inverted universe would this be considered a ‘controversy,’ ” Torres said in a recent tweet.

Congress is straining to pass a bill that funds the government and also raises its debt limit. Republicans, who embraced deficits during the Trump administration, will not vote for the funding bill. That required House Democrats to reach a near-unanimous agreement on the legislation.

Several far-left Democrats threatened to scuttle the plan if it included $1 billion for Israel’s Iron Dome.

House Democratic leaders caved to the demands of the anti-Israel cohort. U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, a New Haven Democrat, is chair of the House Appropriations Committee. She promised to introduce immediately a separate bill that would fund the replenishment of the Iron Dome in the aftermath of 4,000 missiles Hamas fired at Israel from Gaza earlier this year.

Originally fully funded by Israel, the United States has since invested some $900 million in the project in order to protect its own interests in the country and to stake its own claim in the valuable technology.
