Rep. McGee should rethink fuel idea
I disagree with the thinking behind Rep. Brandon McGee’s proposed bill to reduce unhealthy air in his Hartford-Windsor district by capping fossil fuel allowances user companies can buy and need to run their businesses [Insight, Page 1, Sept. 19, “Climate action key in fight for racial justice”].
Does he think he is just punishing the fuel wholesalers if this would pass? He’ll be punishing commuters and passengers in all Connecticut cities and towns who want to get to work if the wholesalers cannot fill the needs of transportation companies running buses. Rationing will be required, as will billions in inefficient spending. Boards will be needed to monitor the usage of fuel, resulting in more bureaucracy and control by state government panels.
This is not the way a run a state that has problems growing population and already faces high gasoline prices and high taxes. Rep. McGee should rethink his proposal.
